IU SMS Consent Management 

Enrolled student and employee consent is managed by the University Internal SMS Consent in SIS/HRMS. Individuals consented by this method are automatically opted-in to receive messages from Modern Campus Message in designated programs. The list of programs included in University Internal SMS Consent is available in the Enterprise CRM . If you believe your program should be included, please contact us at crmhelp@iu.edu. 

Opt-in Processes 

Web Form 

For other constituents or programs not included in University Internal SMS Consent, explicit consent may be obtained via web form. See SMS Consent Form Basics for instructions on configuring an opt-in form. 

Text to Opt-in 

Many text messaging applications offer “Text to Opt-in" functionality which allows constituents to text JOIN or another keyword to a phone number to opt-in. This functionality is not available in Modern Campus Message. Direct constituents to complete your consent web form instead. 

Opt-out Requests 

Constituent opt-out requests must be honored. In the future, Modern Campus Message users will be able to process opt-out requests directly. At this time, opt-out requests can be sent to the Enterprise CRM team at crmhelp@iu.edu. Please include the following information when forwarding the opt-out request: 

1. Program name / phone number (or note that request is to opt-out of all text messaging) 
2. The constituents First and Last Name 
3. The constituent's mobile number 

Constituents can also opt-out of specific programs / phone numbers by texting STOP to the phone number.

View an individual Contact’s IU SMS Consent Status  

1. Open a Contact record in the Enterprise CRM  
2. Click on the ‘Behavioral’ tab  
3. Under ‘IU SMS Consents’, review the Opt-in Status for each unit/from number. A checkmark or ‘True’ means the Contact is subscribed and will receive text messages from that Modern Campus Message number.   
4. Click on the record to view more details about the IU SMS Consent.  

View a contact’s IU SMS Consent activity history  

1. Open a Contact record in the Enterprise CRM  
2. Click on the ‘Behavioral’ tab  
3. Click on ‘SMS Consent Events’ to view details about the various opt-ins and opt-outs collected for the Contact.
